Reasons to get travel insurance
1. Your medical insurance frequently does not work overseas. Medicare does not. If you do not have insurance, the hospital will require a huge upfront payment before they let you leave.
2. You are spending a lot of money that is nonrefundable the closer to travel you get. People feel, “well, surely, they will understand.” Trust me, they don’t and people try that all the time. Cover your investment.
3. Lots of things happen. Your luggage might get lost or delayed. You might lose your passport. You might have a misconnection after a schedule change – I was stuck at the Madagascar airport for 3 days without a lemur in site. All of these are covered (except the lemurs).
4. Bad things can happen. My friend died on an airplane and insurance repatriated her. I have had at least 4 clients break legs and require special help to return home. When I had a major stroke in England, they sent a rescue nurse to come get me, pay for first class and oxygen at altitude, and she led me from hotel bed to my bed at home because I would not have made it easily.
5. Insurance cost is based on age and insured amount.
6. We can speak further about preexisting conditions and cancel for any reason coverage.
